I'm only 15 so I don't need to pay any tax do I?
Unfortunately, you do. It doesn't matter how old you are you still need to pay income tax. If you have been earning money and have not yet declared it then get in touch with us straight away and we'll get you on the straight and narrow. We deal with lots of mums and dads so if you would rather they call then that's fine.
I've bought some fancy clothes for auditions. Can I claim for them?
Probably not. The tax man takes a very strict line with clothing. You can claim for costume (eg a clown suit, tutu etc) but not just for 'looking good'at an audition. The tax man will allow for wardrobe costs at film launches and publicity events - but expect to have to defend what you've claimed! We've got lots of experience in dealing with actors clothing costs so please do not hesitate to contact us if you require further information.
I'm a writer but I don't earn enough to be VAT registered. I get my work though an agent – is there anything I can do to recover the VAT on their commission?
You could look at voluntary registration for VAT.
We find many of our clients can financially benefit from being VAT registered – even when they are well below the limit. Of course, everyone’s situation is different so ask for specific advice for your circumstances.
