Four questions you must ask your Xero Accountant

We’re incredibly proud that we were the first accountants in Liverpool to be awarded Xero Gold status.

It’s a recognition that we are leading the way for Xero in Liverpool.

But having Xero Gold status is only part of the story. To be truly useful to our clients we make sure that we live and breathe using Xero… something that not all advisors do.

Here’s some things you should ask your accountant if you are planning to use Xero in your business.

1. Are you certified by Xero? When was your last certification? Show me the certificate!

Good Xero advisers will make sure they keep up to date and sit refresher exams each year.

2. How many staff are certified?

Firms that are serious about Xero will have lots of trained staff – not just the ‘Xero person in the office’. At Jonathan Ford & Co we’ve 10 staff have passed their Xero exams together with migration specialists and payroll specialists.

3. Do you attend Xerocon?

Each year Xero runs an annual 2 day training and update course in London. Firms that are serious about Xero make sure they’re in the room. We attend each year and here’s Jonathan  catching  up with Gary Turner, MD of Xero UK.

4. Do you use Xero yourself and what addons do you use?
The strength of Xero lies in its ability to connect to lots of other software – from CRM to Receiptbank. Find out what experience they have at integrating Xero with other software.

Jonathan trained as a chartered accountant with Price Waterhouse (now PWC) in Liverpool before becoming a small business services manager for Grant Thornton in Warrington. He also spent three years as the financial controller for Brookside and Hollyoaks (not that he ever mentions it!).

Jonathan is recognised as a specialist in the entertainment industry and is often called upon to provide training courses and seminars for media professionals. He's also a bit of a technology geek and has been recognised with the accountancy industry as one of the most progressive accountants in the UK.
Outside of work Jonathan is very proud to be the Treasurer of the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace and to be on the Council of the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA)
