Six questions that your accountant has never been asked before

We do loads of things behind the scene to make sure we could continue in business should disaster strike.  Not only is this sort of stuff vitally important to us it’s vitally important to our clients too.

I’ve drawn up a short list of really important questions to ask your accountant – but I don’t think I’ve ever been asked one of these myself….

  1. How do they back up their data? If they lost everything it could be a disaster for them – and you.
  2. If they are a sole practitioner with no qualified staff – what arrangements have they made should they suddenly be unable to work?
  3. What insurances do they have in place? Do they have Professional Indemnity Insurance?
  4. How do they deal with confidential waste? Is it shredded by a reputable company?
  5. What anti-virus software do they use? Do they have an up to date contract?
  6. What contingency plans do they have in place should their Internet fail at a critical time – such as when they’re just about to file your accounts?
